Should there be a federal ban on texting or using cell phones when driving?

(This is a video about texting while driving a bus.)

Banning texting or using cell phones when driving may have both positive and negative effects. Of course, I can understand some people disagree with me, because we never know something might come up. For example, if my sister collapses in the street, I have to pick up the phone no matter if I am driving. That’s why nowadays most people have cell phones for emergency.  Therefore, it is controversial whether that has to be banned or not. However, I basically believe using cell phones when driving has to be banned.

When it comes to texting or using cell phones when driving, it can lead drivers to distract the attention. A lot of people use cell phones when driving for GPS, texting, listening to music and talking to people in most cases. As you see, these are almost unnecessary things when driving. When people use cell phones in the driving, people think that they don’t have to worry about it because these are just tiny things; however, most accidents are caused by a brief moment of inattention. These tiny, wrong thoughts make people ruin everything. For example, one guy in Colorado, Alexander Heit, died because he lost control while texting and driving. Therefore, texting and using cell phones has to be prohibited for this reason.

(This is an article about the guy who died in Colorado, texting when driving.)

However, even though I highly believe people shouldn’t use cell phones when driving, it should be flexible as long as people don’t touch cell phones in driving. To be specific, people sometimes have to use cell phones for emergency situation while they are driving such as friend’s dead, fire in house etc. For these cases, some new driving devices are getting produced nowadays like Bluetooth, Hands free. So government has to encourage drivers to buy these kinds of devices, which make drivers not only keep on the road, but also keep using cell phones without physically touching. Now that people buy these kinds of devices, people don’t have to be scared of police’s observation, using cell phone without any distractions.

Thus, texting or using cell phones when driving definitely makes severe damage; however, people don’t need to have car accidents because of using cell phones as long as they have some devices to use cell phones without touching in the car.
